Through observation, conversation, documentation and respectful partnerships with families, I seek to understand children’s interests, strengths, prior experiences, identities and emerging learning needs.
Children’s interests offer meaningful entry points into learning, while careful observation helps me recognise what they already know, what they are beginning to understand and where further possibilities may lie.
However, interests should not become fixed labels or limit children’s access to new knowledge and experiences; we also need to extend their thinking and broaden their possibilities.
